Adolescent Psychotherapy

Regardless of the amount of love and support that a parent provides, parenting teens can still present challenges.

Changes in behaviors may be a sign of a deeper issue.

These behaviors might be changes in mood, social isolation, excessive worry, stress, aggression, or substance usage. Additionally, some adolescents may struggle as their sexual and gender identity develops, they may need additional support to talk about their thoughts and feelings.

The COVID-19 pandemic certainly had an impact on the development of children and adolescents. Your child may also be experiencing difficulties stemming from this time.

Psychotherapy is a process, the first step will be to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship with your teen. When working with teenagers, I am clear about what is and what is not shared with parents. I believe it is essential to work with parents by meeting with at least one parent, on a monthly basis, before each session. I find that this is helpful to understand any additional changes that might arise outside of the therapy room.

Regardless of the reason why you are seeking services for your child, I meet everyone where they are the moment they arrive at my office.
